As Protestants, we understand the story of the Old Testament as the story of God and of God’s relationship with all creation in love and in redemption—a story that joins the New Testament to the Old. Within this broader picture, the Old Testament also tells a specific story of God’s relationship with Israel as the people called, created, and formed to be covenant partners and instruments within creation. Using a thematic, narrative approach, Telling the Old Testament Story invites you to imaginatively enter the biblical story from a macro level while drawing out multiple nuances within different texts and traditions at the same time. Special care was taken to honor the historical context and literary diversity of the Old Testament.
